Nutrition Therapy for Enhanced Fertility

Unfortunately, infertility is a growing problem, affecting 6.1 million people in the United States alone. Sometimes, there is a previously undetected underlying problem that could be contributing to the infertility, but in many cases, there is “no diagnosable reason” which can leave the couple feeling frustrated, stressed and depressed.

Thankfully, we live in a time where modern medicine has progressed to allow those who previously had few options other than adoption, conceive. Yet, the process of fertility treatments can be frustrating, expensive and often, unproductive.

Nutrition and the maintenance of a healthy body help with conception when endeavored naturally, and can dramatically increase the effectiveness of intra-utero insemination or invitro fertilization. As I often tell my clients, if you have to undergo IVF, you want it to happen on the first try, so why not do as much as you can to optimize your health, balance your hormones and stabilize your blood sugar, in order to help facilitate that?

When trying to conceive, one of the first things to look at and assess is your overall health. Do you find yourself getting colds and the flu? Do you have allergies or asthma? Do you have any other inflammatory condition such as IBS, arthritis or an auto-immune disease? All of these things can affect fertility because they affect your immune system which can play a role in fertility. Also, do you have an unstable blood sugar? Do you get headaches and irritability? How is thyroid function?

As you see, beyond establishing healthy monthly periods that run on a 28 day cycle, it is important to look beyond the obvious hormonal concerns to the overall health and vitality of the body. All of you goes into making a baby, not just your uterus and ovaries.

Barbara has helped many women get pregnant through nutritional therapy, many of whom were of an advanced age and/or had a pre-existing medical condition such as poly cystic ovary disease or thyroid disorder. Through a change of diet and the use of natural supplementation, many women have happily found themselves pregnant, even as the odds were stacked against them. It is a privilege to work with these women as they labor to conceive and give birth to their babies.
