“The key to life is to enjoy it and to keep it as simple as possible…”
~ Fozzy wisdom on the trail
I’m writing to you from Deurali, just two villages away from Annapurna Base Camp. Today we make our final ascent. We’ve walked six days for a minimum of eight hours a day and we’re tired and dirty. As we go higher, it’s colder and accommodations are sparser so we’ve not showered in two days but after a while you stop caring and since everyone else around is as filthy too, no one notices. We slept in Fozzy’s tent last night—outside at 9600 feet—and it was the best night of sleep we’ve had yet.
It’s an exhilarating experience. My legs turned to stone days ago but every time I walk through the beautiful rainforests, or catch a glimpse of the Annapurna range, I am motivated to go higher. I’ve never been more physically challenged, nor have had as much fun, even though I’d give anything right now for a hot shower.
We’ve fueled ourselves with traditional Nepalese food that’s available at the tea houses along the way. I’ll say more about it in next week’s blog, but I’ve had loads of ginger tea, mushroom soup and momo’s. All delicious ways to shore up for the next leg of the trek.
I have to leave it at this for now. Reception is sketchy and I am hopeful I can get even this to you before Monday. But once I’m back in Pokhara I’ll share more.
Namaste…

Here’s the sunrise over Annapurna Range from Poon Hill… We woke at 4am to trek to it and it was absolutely worth it!
